A Wargaming Favourite - Pontic Armies in Warmaster Ancients and the Purbeck Brotherhood of Ancients

Our Wargames club, the Purbeck Brotherhood of Ancients, has seen many changes over the years, none of which seem to have impacted upon us. Lifetime membership was agreed at 13.5 pence and to my knowledge the treasurer (absent for many years now) has never sought to collect. Attendance is optional.

The Club History Described by others as "a club for war gamers" as opposed "a Wargames club", its origins lie in the dim and distant past of the last century...in a crypt. It progressed, and now meets on a Monday in the Brunswick Hotel, which strangely happens to be the Pub closest to Miniature Wargames' Headquarters in Bournemouth! The club fought WRG through to sixth edition and entered three teams in the UK doubles Grand Prix back in the Eighties and then went quiet on the Wargames Front. Sixth Edition was hard to master and new players were drawn to DBM. When this took over some of us felt it was as if chess players had been introduced to draughts! Probably our loss, not theirs as ancients has continued to increase in popularity. We still met, but mainly recounted former glories or indulged in combination campaigns with role-playing as well as figures.
