Welcome to Miniature Wargames

Introduction to Miniature Wargames

Wargaming is all about putting yourself in the role of a commander of
soldiers. Whether they are Egyptian charioteers, French Imperial Guard or British paratroops you are the boss. However, it is more than being in
control. You have to pit your force against an enemy commanded by, usually, another player.

This means you have to devise a plan and put it into action, then cope with the consequences of the other guy's plan. Very often it is the one who best handles the unforeseen that will win.

But, first you will have to select your army and paint the figures to
resemble their historical counter parts before you can take them to the
tabletop. Our Starter Packs are designed to help you do just that. They
include two matched armies which are pre-selected to give you a
representative force and painting instructions are included. Some also
include card buildings and even a ship. Most of the rules are designed as simplified sets that lead you gently on to the full set in common use.

To help you find opponents Miniature Wargames magazine keeps a list of all the known clubs, e-mail us to find out your nearest. There are also many shows around the world, especially in the UK and Miniature Wargames keeps a list of all the ones we know about. The calendar in our January issue gives you an easy guide to planning your visits. The shows usually host some kind of competition, demonstration and participation games and trade stands - lots to see and do!

You will quickly make new friends and discover that wargaming opens a whole new world that you'll never tire of.
